Recent Developments in the Evaluation of Loads on Props and Floor Slabs During Construction of Multistory Buildings. Conclusions Drawn from Tests.

The seminar will present the different methods for construction of cast-in-place concrete floor slabs in multistory buildings, together with the calculation methods commonly used for the evaluation of loads on props and slabs.
It will be shown that current calculation methods lack either the rigor or the simplicity to be able to be used in every-day practice and, at the same time, predict the loads accurately, especially in construction procedures where the change in stiffness of slabs and the propping system is important.
To help solving these gaps in knowledge several experimental tests have been carried out at the Technical University of Valencia. From their results a new simplified design method has been developed and verified. Also, the importance of temperature changes on loads has been observed by monitoring and modeled numerically.
The main results and conclusions of these experiments will be presented and discussed during the seminar.
