Graduate Student, David Pal, Establishes Scholarship in Honor of His Mother
One of our own graduate students, David Pal, has established a fund to support high school seniors who has been affected by cancer so they can have the financial means to obtain higher education. Marna’s Pals, in honor of David’s mother who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2008, will award seven scholarships this year to New Jersey students whose parents or siblings are either currently battling, survived, or passed away from cancer.
David feels fortunate that he had the financial support to complete his undergraduate degree at Rutgers University. He knows firsthand how cancer can take a financial as well as an emotional toll on a family, and wants to provide scholarships to students who share similar situations.
In tribute to his high school alma mater, one of these scholarships will be reserved for a South Brunswick High School senior. Applicants should be college students and high school seniors planning to attend college (2-year or 4-year or vocational schools). The scholarship is targeting high school seniors who are dealing with the effects of cancer at the moment. Financial burden will be a factor in selecting an applicant.
The department applauds David and is proud to have him as one of our graduate students in the Environmental Engineering and Water Resources program.
