Professor Julie Young and two graduate students from the Civil & Environmental Engineering Dept. spent the summer creating model-scale tsunamis at Oregon State University's Tsunami Wave Basin, the largest experimental facility dedicated to the study of tsunamis in North America.
Professor James Smith's work with graduate student Alexandros Ntelekos is featured on the Princeton University homepage. According to their research, summer thunderstorms become much more fierce when they collide with a city than they would otherwise be in the open countryside.
