SANGAM
A concert that combines three traditions of spiritual music and poetry: Tagore's songs, Urdu Sufi poetry, and Gospel music. Each of these three traditions is well-established and well known within its own cultural space. This program puts them in dialogue with one another through both finding common threads and highlighting their individuality, with GRAMMY nominated flutist Ron Korb, Gospel singer Trineice Robinson, Tagore singer Somdatta, and poetry recitation artist Fauzia Farooqui. The music is arranged by pianist Anil Veeraraj, accompanied by Josh Orlando on drums and Arthur Paley on guitar.
The concert will be followed by an event on Tuesday, March 5 at 5PM (Room A71 Louis A. Simpson International Building) featuring a talk by Ron Korb on "Exploring Cultural Heritage Through Music," as well as a conversation with the vocalists about Gospel songs, Tagore music, and Urdu Sufi poetry.
Co-sponsored by the Program in South Asian Studies.
