Ricardo Luna ’62 was Peru’s ambassador to the United Nations from 1989 to 1992, then ambassador to the U.S. until 1999. In these capacities, he worked to strengthen relations between Latin America and the U.S., reduce Peruvian international debt, and support alternative crop development programs among coca farmers. A career diplomat, Luna has also served his native Peru in the United Kingdom, Israel, Switzerland and Ecuador, and he has been honored by such nations as Argentina and Brazil for his public service. He also has taught several courses at the Woodrow Wilson School. Princeton University has graduated more than 100 ambassadors to the United Nations, diplomatic missions, and over 70 countries worldwide.
