Enrollment & Changes

As a Princeton University employee, eligible for benefits, you can enroll in the University’s benefits plans when you are first hired or become benefits eligible. As a new employee, you receive information on or before your first day of work about Princeton’s various benefit plans and the options available. 

Typically, you have 31 days to learn about the plan features, make your selections and enroll through Princeton’s eBenefits online system. Later on, you also can make changes during the annual benefits open enrollment period or when your situation — or your eligible dependent’s situation — changes with a qualifying status event.
During the annual benefits Open Enrollment Period, which, usually occurs in October, you will receive written information that describes any changes that might be made to the University’s benefits plans. During the Open Enrollment Period, you can change your benefit plan choices, and you can add or delete dependents.
How your situation changes determines which plans you can change. When you have a qualifying status event, you typically have a 31–day window to first notify the Benefits Team to make changes to your benefits. If you have a new baby or adopt a child, you have a 90–day window to notify us to make changes.
The two most important aspects of enrolling in your benefits are:
  • understanding which plans best meet your personal needs
  • enrolling within the specified timeframes
Princeton University adheres to enrollment deadlines because benefit plans are regulated.

During your enrollment period, you can enroll in your benefits or view your benefit information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in eBenefits.
