In accordance with that goal, some designated positions at the University require that the final candidate successfully complete a background check prior to being employed by Princeton. A talent acquisition specialist will arrange for a background check, which may include a verification of your employment history, Social Security number and a criminal records search. For some positions, the verification will include level of education obtained, motor vehicle report, professional license, consumer credit report, sexual offender database search and/or drug screen. These checks are normally completed before an offer of employment is made.
The information obtained through the verification process will be used consistent with the provisions of (1) the Fair Credit Reporting Act; (2) New Jersey’s Consumer Fair Credit Act; and (3) federal and state equal employment opportunity laws or regulations. The University will keep confidential all information gathered in background checks and will use the information solely for the purpose of establishing suitability for employment in a particular position.
