University confers 1,730 degrees at 253rd Commencement

Princeton University conferred a total of 1,730 bachelor and advanced degrees at its 253rd Commencement May 30.

During the ceremony, the University awarded five honorary degrees , honored four secondary school teachers and bestowed the President's Teaching Award on four faculty members.

University President Harold T. Shapiro delivered brief remarks at the conclusion of the ceremony. Andrew Houck, an electrical engineering major, delivered the valedictory address. At the Class Day ceremony May 29, members of the Class of 2000 were honored for academic and athletic achievements and for their community service. The Association of Princeton Graduate Alumni also gave awards for excellence in graduate school teaching.
