Online sign-up begins for freshman writing seminars

As part of a revamped undergraduate writing requirement, all freshmen this year will take a one-semester writing seminar offered by the Princeton Writing Program. For the first time, freshmen will sign up for these seminars online.

Each writing seminar focuses on an intellectually stimulating topic while introducing students to strategies and techniques of college-level argument. Freshmen have been randomly assigned to a term in which to take a writing seminar.

After meeting with academic advisers and enrolling in other classes, students assigned to the fall term will enroll in a writing seminar by ranking their top eight choices on a special Web site accessible via . The enrollment period lasts from 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, until noon Thursday, Sept 13.

A few days after the end of the online enrollment period, students will be notified by e-mail of the particular writing seminar to which they have been assigned. Most students will receive one of their top four choices. Students assigned to the spring term will receive a catalog of seminar offerings sometime in December, before winter recess, and will enroll in a writing seminar in January.
