Bernanke nominated to Federal Reserve Board

President Bush has nominated Princeton economics professor Ben Bernanke to the seven-member Federal Reserve Board .

Bernanke is the Howard Harrison and Gabrielle Snyder Beck Professor of Economics and Public Affairs and the chair of the Department of Economics .

A macroeconomist with interests in monetary policy and macroeconomic history, he is the director of the Program in Monetary Economics of the National Bureau of Economic Research and a member of the bureau's Business Cycle Dating Committee. He also serves as editor of the American Economic Review.

His nomination is subject to approval by the U.S. Senate.
