"Legacies: The Story of the Immigrant Second Generation," a book by Alejandro Portes and Rubin Rumbaut, has received the Pitirim Sorokin Award for the best book published in 2001. The Sorokin award is the highest recognition of scholarly publications given by the American Sociological Association.
Portes is the Howard Harrison and Gabrielle Snyder Beck Professor of Sociology at Princeton, and Rumbaut is a professor of sociology at Michigan State University.
