Five tigers help U.S. lacrosse team take world championship

A Princeton student and four alumni were members of the U.S. team that won the title game in the International Lacrosse Federation World Championships in Perth, Australia, Sunday, July 14. The team held off Canada 18-15 to win its sixth consecutive world championship.

Ryan Boyle , the 2002 Ivy League Player of the Year, scored twice in the final game. He finished the tournament with 14 goals and nine assists. Boyle, who will be a junior at Princeton, now has one world championship, one under-19 world championship, one NCAA championship and two Ivy League championships on his lacrosse resume.

Boyle's teammates in Perth included Princeton alumni Kevin Lowe '94, Trevor Tierney '01, Matt Striebel '01 and Ryan Mollett '01.

Tierney brought home the trophy for the outstanding goalie at the event. Following the championship, Tierney was named All-World Goalie and Mollett was named All-World Defenseman on the 10-man All-World team. As teammates at the 2001 NCAA championship, Tierney and Mollett earned national player of the year at their positions.
