Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist Oscar Hijuelos will read from his work at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, in the Stewart Film Theater, 185 Nassau St.
Hijuelos was the first Hispanic American novelist to receive a Pulitzer when he won in 1990 for "The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love." Two years later, the book was made into a movie, "The Mambo Kings," starring Armand Assante and Antonio Banderas. Hijuelos is the author of three other novels and several award-winning short stories.
The reading is part of the Creative Writing Program's Althea Ward Clark Reading Series and of a month-long Latin American culture celebration, "The Search for Xochipili," featuring a variety of music, the visual arts and the spoken word.
