Orchestra opens concert season, Oct. 16-17

The Princeton University Orchestra will open its concert season at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, in Richardson Auditorium, Alexander Hall.
The orchestra, conducted by Michael Pratt, will perform an all-Russian program, including Glinka's "Ruslan and Ludmila Overture" and Prokofiev's suite from the ballet "Le Pas d'Acier." The Department of Music and the Program in Theater and Dance will stage this ballet in the spring.
The concerts will feature Lauren Sarah Carpenter, who will perform the solo in Shostakovich's Violin Concerto No. 1. Carpenter, a Princeton junior, has won numerous awards, including the University's 2004 concerto competition, and has performed throughout the United States and Europe.
Tickets are $5 for students and $15 for others. They can be purchased online through University Ticketing or by calling the Richardson Auditorium box office at (609) 258-5000. Passport to the Arts tickets are accepted.
