Tyehimba to speak on reparations legislation, April 22

Kibibi Tyehimba, co-chair of the National Coalition of Blacks for Reparations in America, will speak on "HR-40 and the Reparations Movement: Current Legal Strategies" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 22, in 302 Frist.

Tyehimba, who also co-chairs the DC Metropolitan chapter of the coalition, is involved in organizing elected officials across the country to support the passage of HR-40. The bill, introduced annually since 1989 in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. John Conyers, would allow for an investigation of slavery's effects on the African American population and determine if reparations are necessary. Tyehimba will speak on community organizing and the 21st-century reparations movement as a critical extension of African Americans' ongoing quest for human and civil rights in the United States.

The event is sponsored by the Princeton Justice Project . It is free and open to the public.
