Three Princeton rowers win Olympic medals

Chris Ahrens of Princeton's class of 1998 won a gold medal at the Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, helping the U.S. men's eight rowing team win its first gold since 1964 by defeating the Dutch squad Sunday, Aug. 22.

Lianne Bennion-Nelson, a member of the class of 1995, earned a silver medal with the U.S. women's eight team. Tom Herschmiller, a 2001 Princeton graduate, also won a silver medal as part of the Canadian men's four team.

Among other Princeton athletes at the Summer Olympics, fencer Soren Thompson, a member of the class of 2005, was part of the sixth-place U.S. men's epee team and finished seventh in the men's epee individual competition -- the best showing in nearly 50 years by a U.S. fencer in that event. Also, rower Danika Harris-Holbrook of Princeton's class of 1995 was a member of the sixth-place U.S. women's quadruple scull team.
