Lecture explores negotiation and gender divide, March 29

A lecture titled "Women Don't Ask: Negotiation and the Gender Divide" will be presented at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 29, in 16 Robertson Hall.

The speakers will be Linda Babcock and Sara Laschever, authors of a book on the same topic published last year by Princeton University Press. Babcock is the James M. Walton Professor of Economics at Carnegie Mellon University. Laschever, a 1979 Princeton alumna, is a writer and editor.

Drawing on research in psychology, sociology, economics and organizational behavior as well as dozens of interviews with men and women from all walks of life, the authors identify the dramatic difference between men and women in their propensity to negotiate for what they want. By looking at the barriers holding women back and the social forces constraining them, the book shows women how to reframe their interactions and more accurately evaluate their opportunities.

The lecture is sponsored by the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs , Gender and Development Policy Network , Program in the Study of Women and Gender and Women's Center .
