Amadio named to USA Today all-academic team

Princeton senior Jordan Amadio has been named one of 20 members of USA Today's All-USA College Academic Team.

The newspaper honors 20 students from around the country who combine high academic achievement with "the ability to extend their scholarship beyond the classroom to make all kinds of connections in the world at large," according to the Feb. 17 article.

Amadio, a physics major from Cazenovia, N.Y. , is the founding chair of the Princeton Undergraduate Research Symposium, which encourages interdisciplinary dialogue among Princeton science and engineering students. His interests are in the use of nanoscale technology to understand and treat human disease, particularly diseases associated with the aging process.

Amadio's research includes an investigation of a proposed novel molecular mechanism for Alzheimer's disease and a study of new techniques for manipulating biomolecules with an atomic-force microscope. Amadio, who has an interest in public policy and the use of science to benefit the developing world, plans to pursue an M.D. combined with either a Ph.D. or an MBA.

He also is the president of the University Press Club, a scientific and technical writing tutor, the founder of the Student Global Science Corps and a recipient of the Spirit of Princeton award, which honors undergraduates for their positive contributions to campus life.
