University joins recycling competition

Princeton is one of 93 universities in the country participating in a 10-week competition that ends April 8 to see who can recycle more and reduce waste.

This is the sixth year for the Recyclemania competition, but the inaugural year for Princeton, whose competitors include Ivy League rivals Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth and Yale. The goal is to raise student awareness and involvement in campus recycling

Schools compete to produce the most recycling and least waste per person. Participating schools report weekly results in pounds, which the campus group Greening Princeton will post on its Web site along with up-to-date rankings and suggestions to help Princeton win.

The competition is endorsed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's WasteWise program and sponsored on campus by Greening Princeton and the University's recycling department.
