Panel to center on gang activity, April 4

A panel discussion on the challenges presented by gang activity in area cities and suburbs is set for 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, in 15 Robertson Hall.

Members of the panel include: Sergio Argueta, a former gang member and founder of STONG Youth, an anti-gang violence program; Ron Holvey, a principal investigator for the New Jersey Department of Corrections; Peter Moskos, a 1994 Princeton alumnus who is a professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a former Baltimore police officer; and Robert Bowser, the mayor of the city of East Orange, N.J., and chair of the League of Municipalities' Gang Prevention and Youth Violence Task Force.

The speakers will focus on the intersection of regional public policy apparatuses and underprivileged youths, the spread of gangs from urban to suburban areas and the need for coordination across political boundaries.

The event is sponsored by the Policy Research Institute for the Region.
