"Tiger Tomes: Princeton's Online Book Club" continues this spring with a book on higher education's place in society.
The February selection, "A Larger Sense of Purpose: Higher Education and Society," is by Harold T. Shapiro, a 1964 graduate alumnus, president emeritus of the University and a professor of economics and public affairs. Shapiro explores the role the modern university should play as an ethical force and societal steward.
The book club, launched by the Alumni Association in 2005, is a forum for alumni, parents, faculty, staff, friends and others to read and discuss books by Princeton alumni and faculty.
The online discussion is being led by Stanley Katz, a lecturer with the rank of professor in public and international affairs. He is president emeritus of the American Council of Learned Societies and a commentator on higher education policy.
