PUPP to hold graduation ceremony, June 6

The Princeton University Preparatory Program (PUPP), which helps academically talented high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for college, will hold a ceremony for its graduating seniors at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, in 101 Friend Center.

PUPP is an intensive, three-year college preparation program that supports a select group of students from Ewing, Princeton and Trenton public schools. The students spend six weeks over the summer on the Princeton campus taking courses in subjects such as art, writing, literature, math, physics, biology, social science and college-preparation skills.

The 19 members of PUPP's graduating class of 2007 will be attending colleges and universities around the country, including Princeton, Cornell, Rutgers, Seton Hall, Notre Dame, Howard, Colgate, Johns Hopkins, Tulane, Carnegie Mellon, Spelman and Lafayette.

"This class of graduating seniors is a wonderful example of PUPP's critical mission: to prepare outstanding students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds for selective college success," said Jason Klugman, PUPP director. "These are bright, motivated students who have worked hard to develop their academic talents and will now pursue their dreams at some of the country's finest colleges and universities. We look forward to watching their continued success and welcoming a new group of students to the program this summer."

PUPP, administered by the University's Program in Teacher Preparation, is now in its seventh year. In addition to the summer session, students remain involved in the program year-round, participating in weekly academic enrichment sessions at their schools and attending cultural events.
