Conference to focus on 'Immigrants in the Military in Modern America'

A two-day conference on issues connecting immigration policy and the U.S. military, "Patriots or Invaders? - Immigrants in the Military in Modern America," will be held on Friday, May 23, and Saturday, May 24, in the Friend Center Convocation Room at Princeton University. Events begin at 9 a.m. on Friday, May 23, and 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24. 

The conference, which is sponsored by the Princeton Center for Migration and Development and directed by Professor Edward Telles, is free and open to the public. It will feature top researchers and writers on immigration and the U.S. military, including Jeanne Batalova (Immigration Policy Center); Nancy Gentile Ford (Bloomsburg University); Darlene Goring (Louisiana State University Law Center); James B. Stewart (Pennsylvania State University); and Margaret Stock, founder of Cascadia Cross Border Law and recipient of a prestigious MacArthur Foundation Genius Fellowship. Participants also include Lieutenant Colonel Alfred V. Rascón, a highly decorated Vietnam veteran and recipient of the Medal of Honor. 

The conference is being co-sponsored by the Program in Law and Public Affairs, Center for African American Studies, Institute for International and Regional Studies, Program in American Studies, Office of Population Research, Program in Latin American Studies, University Center for Human Values, and the Latin American Legal Defense and Education Fund.

'Law@Princeton' conference recognizes LAPA'S 10th anniversary, Oct. 21-23 .

The Program in Law and Public Affairs at Princeton University will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a major public conference titled "Law@Princeton." Beginning with a keynote address by Provost Christopher Eisgruber on at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21 in McCormick Hall, Room 101, the conference will continue all day Friday and much of Saturday, Oct. 22 and 23, in Robertson Hall. It will include 12 panel discussions featuring more than 50 distinguished scholars from around the world who have been fellows at LAPA since its founding.

Princeton awards five honorary degrees .

Princeton awarded honorary degrees during its 2023 Commencement ceremony to Lynn A. Conway, Arcadio Díaz-Quiñones, Rhiannon Giddens, Suzan Shown Harjo, and Katalin Karikó.
