Mala Murthy, assistant professor in PNI and Molecular Biology, is a recipient of a 2011 HFSP (Human Frontiers Science Program) Young Investigator research grant. These competitive research grants are awarded to teams of scientists from different countries who wish to combine their expertise in innovative approaches to questions that could not be answered by individual laboratories - particular emphasis is placed on cutting-edge, risky projects. . Mala is part of a team of scientists that will study the evolution of species-specific acoustic communication in Drosophila.
