High Energy Physics Seminar-Valentina Dutta-MIT-The Search for a Higgs boson Decaying to Tau Pairs with the CMS Detector
The discovery of a new boson compatible with the expectations for the Standard Model Higgs propelled LHC physics into a new era. Studying the properties and couplings of the newly discovered particle immediately became a goal of primary importance. The di-tau final state currently provides the only means of probing the coupling of the Higgs to leptons; it is also the fermionic final state with the best sensitivity for a Standard Model Higgs. This talk describes the latest results of the search for a Higgs decaying to tau pairs using all of the data recorded by the Compact Muon Solenoid experiment in 2011 and 2012. Looking beyond the Standard Model interpretation, an analysis of the data in the context of the MSSM is also presented. Finally, future prospects of the measurement are discussed.
