Alpa Shah is a senior lecturer in the Department of Anthropology at the University of London. Her research interests include international development, social movements, indigenous rights movements, human rights efforts, positive action policies, and left-wing radical politics. Shah is currently working on two projects: inequality and affirmative action in India and Nepal, and education and sociopolitical transformation in remote rural India. Her book, In the Shadows of the State: Indigenous Politics, Environmentalism, and Insurgency in Jharkhand, India, was published in 2010.
