Quick Tips for "Library Web Computer"

GENERAL
To check results of a download to a floppy disk:
NOTIS connections:
Click on In Library ("Preferred") for full functionality.
(Telnet choice does not enable use of function keys or proper backspacing,
and Java choice has these deficiencies plus it does not support printing.)
To get out of an application if it freezes:
Press Ctrl-Alt-Del, then the Task Manager window will pop up. Click on problem process, then click on End Task.
Problems trying to connect "Library Web Computer" choices (networked CD-ROMs):
If you get error messages (such as "unable to find atla.bat" or "unrecoverable error" or the box which says "spawning external viewer" hangs) or your session hangs,
Options menu --> Network PreferencesClear both the memory cache and the disk cache, then close.
PRINTING problems/solutions:
You see a box that asks for "output file name"
Go to File Print Options switch from MS ImageSetter to HP Laser Jet
· from text version of Lexis Nexis (caution: Long lines will be cut off)
A single screen: Printerà print screen
More than one screen: PrinteràAuto Print Mode (uncheck it when you've gone through all the screens you wish to print)

In Netscape, go to Fileà Print
Downloading from text version of Lexis Nexis:
FileàLog File (ignore Upload and Download choices; they only
apply to Kermit users) Then type a:\filename.txt (or any filename you choose)
Capturing text version of Lexis results to a file to be sent to email accounts:
When on first page of desired article, press Ctrl-L; hit enter for each successive screen; Press Ctrl-F to turn screen capture off.
When ready to exit, type .so, press enter, then N (for "No" I don't want to save my research), then wait about 5-10 seconds. You will be prompted for an email address. Hit enter, then your mail address will be confirmed.
Emailing results from Netscape:
On the page of results you wish to email to yourself, choose, File, then Mail Document. Put your full email address in the Mail to box. You can include the text of the citations/abstracts if you click the Quote button.
Reading email/opening telnet sessions from Netscape:
(remember to close all telnet sessions when done, otherwise telnet ports will be tied up needlessly.)
To connect to a Princeton Unix computer from Netscape:
In the Location box, type: telnet://arizona
To connect to the Princeton IBM computer from Netscape:
In the Location box, type: tn3270://pucc
