Allen Township is a civil township of Hillsdale County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township population was 1,631.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 36.3 square miles (94.0 km²), of which, 36.1 square miles (93.5 km²) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.5 km²) of it (0.52%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,631 people, 599 households, and 446 families residing in the township. The population density was 45.2 per square mile (17.4/km²). There were 708 housing units at an average density of 19.6/sq mi (7.6/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.98% White, 0.31% African American, 0.49% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.06% from other races, and 1.04% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.67% of the population.

There were 599 households out of which 35.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 65.8% were married couples living together, 5.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 25.4% were non-families. 21.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.16.
