Belvedere Park is a census-designated place (CDP) in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 18,945 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Belvedere Park is located at 33°44′56″N 84°15′35″W / 33.74889°N 84.25972°W / 33.74889; -84.25972 (33.748855, -84.259617)[3]. Belvedere Park is a community in the heart of DeKalb County, Georgia, located just east of East Lake and south of Avondale Estates and the city of Decatur, and 6 miles from the State Capitol in downtown Atlanta. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.0 square miles (12.9 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 18,945 people, 6,524 households, and 4,527 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 3,801.9 people per square mile (1,468.8/km²). There were 7,010 housing units at an average density of 1,406.8/sq mi (543.5/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 13.16% White, 82.38% African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.94% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.69% from other races, and 1.62% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.48% of the population.

There were 6,524 households out of which 35.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 31.7% were married couples living together, 31.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.6% were non-families. 22.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.90 and the average family size was 3.43.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 30.1% under the age of 18, 10.6% from 18 to 24, 32.6% from 25 to 44, 20.2% from 45 to 64, and 6.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 86.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 79.4 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $36,144, and the median income for a family was $37,207. Males had a median income of $29,134 versus $26,323 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $15,524. About 14.1% of families and 16.7% of the population were below the poverty line, including 23.4% of those under age 18 and 11.3% of those age 65 or over.
