Benson County is a county located in the U.S. state of North Dakota. As of the 2000 census, the population was 6,964. Its county seat is Minnewaukan.[1] It was named for B.W. Benson, a member of the Dakota Territory legislature.

Sullys Hill National Game Preserve and much of the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation are located within the county.

Geography

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,439 square miles (3,727.0 km2). 1,381 square miles (3,576.8 km2) is land and 59 square miles (152.8 km2) (or 4.08%) is water.
