Berkeley County is a county in the U.S. state of South Carolina. In 2000, its population was 142,651. The 2005 Census Bureau estimate placed the population at 151,673.[1] Its county seat is Moncks Corner.[2]

As defined by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, and used by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes only, Berkeley County is included within the Charleston-North Charleston-Summerville metropolitan area.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,228 square miles (3,180.5 km2), of which 1,098 square miles (2,843.8 km2) is land and 130 square miles (336.7 km2) (10.61%) is water.
