Camden is a village in Preble County, Ohio, United States. The population was 2,302 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area. Camden is also home to the Black Walnut Festival.



Camden is located at 39°37′51″N 84°38′56″W / 39.63083°N 84.64889°W / 39.63083; -84.64889 (39.630820, -84.648774)[4].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.2 km²), all of it land.


As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 2,302 people, 897 households, and 621 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,870.1 people per square mile (722.6/km²). There were 946 housing units at an average density of 768.5/sq mi (297.0/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 98.57% White, 0.39% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.04% from other races, and 0.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.48% of the population.

There were 897 households out of which 37.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.6% were married couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 26.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 3.10.

In the village the population was spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 19.9% from 45 to 64, and 11.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females there were 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.6 males.
