Clearwater County is a rural county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of 2000, the population was 8,423 but dropped to 8,249 in 2008 (estimate). Its county seat is Bagley[1]. Clearwater County is home to Lake Itasca, the source of the Mississippi River. Portions of the Red Lake and White Earth Indian reservations extend into the county.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,030 square miles (2,667.7 km2), of which 995 square miles (2,577.0 km2) is land and 35 square miles (90.6 km2) (3.41%) is water.
