Georgetown is a town in Floyd County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,227 at the 2000 census. The population is said to have been 2,768 as of 2006.
R. Carlyle Buley, who was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1951, was born in Georgetown on July 8, 1893

Sherman Minton, United States Attorney General and Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, was born in Georgetown on October 20, 1890.

Geography

Georgetown is located at 38°18′0″N 85°58′15″W / 38.3°N 85.97083°W / 38.3; -85.97083 (38.300068, -85.970704)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.8 square miles (4.7 km²), of which, 1.8 square miles (4.6 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (1.11%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 2,227 people, 794 households, and 655 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,242.4 people per square mile (480.4/km²). There were 830 housing units at an average density of 463.1/sq mi (179.0/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.61% White, 0.22% African American, 0.13% Native American, 0.22% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 0.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.49% of the population.

There were 794 households out of which 44.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 68.4% were married couples living together, 10.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.4% were non-families. 14.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.80 and the average family size was 3.09.

In the town the population was spread out with 27.8% under the age of 18, 7.9% from 18 to 24, 34.0% from 25 to 44, 24.0% from 45 to 64, and 6.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 101.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.0 males.
