Guadalupe County is a county located in the U.S. state of New Mexico. As of 2000, the population was 4,680. Its county seat is Santa Rosa.[1]

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 3,032 square miles (7,852.8 km2), of which 3,030 square miles (7,847.7 km2) is land and 1 square mile (2.6 km2) (0.04%) is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 4,680 people, 1,655 households, and 1,145 families residing in the county. The population density was 2 people per square mile (1/km²). There were 2,160 housing units at an average density of 1 per square mile (0/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 54.06% White, 1.32% Black or African American, 1.13% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 39.06% from other races, and 3.85% from two or more races. 81.22% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 1,655 households out of which 33.80% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.50% were married couples living together, 14.30% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.80% were non-families. 27.90% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.05.

In the county the population was spread out with 24.40% under the age of 18, 9.20% from 18 to 24, 30.70% from 25 to 44, 21.90% from 45 to 64, and 13.80% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 121.50 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 126.30 males.
