Hinds County is a county located in the U.S. state of Mississippi. It is part of the Jackson, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. As of 2000, the population was 250,800. Its county seats are Jackson and Raymond[1]. Hinds County is named for U.S. Congressman Thomas Hinds.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 877 square miles (2,271.4 km2), of which 869 square miles (2,250.7 km2) is land and 8 square miles (20.7 km2) (0.93%) is water.
