Lakeside is a census-designated place in Clay County, Florida, United States. The population was 30,927 at the 2000 census.

Lakeside is an unincorporated census area in greater Orange Park and consists of the separate community of Doctor's Inlet (or Doctor's Lake to locals).

Geography

Lakeside is located at 30°8′5″N 81°45′57″W / 30.13472°N 81.76583°W / 30.13472; -81.76583 (30.134840, -81.765767)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 17.4 square miles (45.1 km²), of which, 15.1 square miles (39.2 km²) of it is land and 2.3 square miles (5.9 km²) of it (12.97%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 30,927 people, 10,753 households, and 8,785 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 2,040.8 people per square mile (788.2/km²). There were 11,144 housing units at an average density of 735.3/sq mi (284.0/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 85.75% White, 7.11% African American, 0.40% Native American, 2.73% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 1.47% from other races, and 2.46% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.30% of the population.

There were 10,753 households out of which 42.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.6% were married couples living together, 11.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 18.3% were non-families. 14.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.87 and the average family size was 3.15.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 28.4% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 29.4% from 25 to 44, 25.8% from 45 to 64, and 7.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 95.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 92.9 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $52,013, and the median income for a family was $56,254. Males had a median income of $36,787 versus $25,703 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $20,785. About 3.6% of families and 4.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 5.5% of those under age 18 and 6.0% of those age 65 or over.
