Leonardo is a census-designated place located within Middletown Township, in Monmouth County, New Jersey. As of the United States 2000 Census, the CDP population was 2,823. The United States Postal Service designated Zip Code for Leonardo is 07737.



Leonardo is located at 40°25′10″N 74°03′37″W / 40.419374°N 74.060209°W / 40.419374; -74.060209 (40.419374, -74.060209)[4] on the south shore of Raritan Bay.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.6 km2 (0.6 mi²). 1.6 km2 (0.6 mi2) of it is land and 1.59% is water.


As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 2,823 people, 987 households, and 753 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 1,758.0/km2 (4,523.1/mi2). There were 1,017 housing units at an average density of 633.3/km2 (1,629.5/mi2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 95.85% White, 0.53% African American, 0.25% Native American, 0.50% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 0.46% from other races, and 0.89% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.85% of the population.

There were 987 households out of which 35.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.5% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.7% were non-families. 19.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.86 and the average family size was 3.31.
