Liberty Township is a township in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,266 at the 2000 census.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 30.0 square miles (77.7 km²), of which, 29.7 square miles (76.9 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it (1.00%) is water.


As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,266 people, 474 households, and 359 families residing in the township. The population density was 42.6 people per square mile (16.5/km²). There were 577 housing units at an average density of 19.4/sq mi (7.5/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.26% White, 0.24% African American, 0.16% Native American, and 1.34% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.16% of the population.

There were 474 households out of which 31.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.5% were married couples living together, 4.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.1% were non-families. 20.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.67 and the average family size was 3.08.

In the township the population was spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 7.3% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 28.5% from 45 to 64, and 10.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.0 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $33,750, and the median income for a family was $38,333. Males had a median income of $26,771 versus $21,898 for females. The per capita income for the township was $14,664. About 9.5% of families and 13.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.6% of those under age 18 and 7.0% of those age 65 or over.
