Mitchell County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. It is named in honor of John Mitchel. As of 2000, the population was 10,874. Its county seat is Osage.[1]

History

Mitchell County was founded in 1851. It was named after John Mitchel, an Irish patriot.[2]
