Moraine is a city in Montgomery County, Ohio, United States. The population was 6,897 at the 2000 census. The city is part of the The Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes Montgomery county. Moraine, as part of the Dayton area, is situated within the Miami Valley region of Ohio, just north of the Cincinnati metropolitan area. The city is also home to the outdoor waterpark Splash Moraine.



Moraine is located at 39°41′44″N 84°13′40″W / 39.69556°N 84.22778°W / 39.69556; -84.22778 (39.695650, -84.227677)[4].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 9.3 square miles (24.2 km²), of which, 9.1 square miles (23.5 km²) of it is land and 0.3 square miles (0.7 km²) of it (2.89%) is water.


As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 6,897 people, 2,855 households, and 1,818 families residing in the city. The population density was 760.3 people per square mile (293.6/km²). There were 3,127 housing units at an average density of 344.7/sq mi (133.1/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 89.53% White, 6.23% African American, 0.43% Native American, 2.00% Asian, 0.51% from other races, and 1.29% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.41% of the population.

There were 2,855 households out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 44.0% were married couples living together, 14.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.3% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.94.
