Newcastle is a city in and the county seat of Weston County, Wyoming, United States.[3] The population was 3,065 at the 2000 census.


Geography and climate

Newcastle is located at 43°51′11″N 104°12′34″W / 43.85306°N 104.20944°W / 43.85306; -104.20944 (43.853183, -104.209343). [4]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.5 square miles (6.4 km²), all land.

Newcastle experiences a continental climate (Koppen climate classification Dfb) with cold, dry winters and warm, relatively wet summers.


As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,065 people, 1,253 households, and 844 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,242.1 people per square mile (479.1/km²). There were 1,458 housing units at an average density of 590.9/sq mi (227.9/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.79% White, 0.13% African American, 1.44% Native American, 0.29% Asian, 1.01% from other races, and 1.34% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.66% of the population.

There were 1,253 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.0% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% were non-families. 28.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.88.
