History

Founded on December 19, 1795, Oglethorpe County is named for Georgia's founder, James Oglethorpe.

Famous residents have been Meriwether Lewis of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and country music performer Kenny Rogers.[citation needed]

Kenny Rogers did in fact reside in Oglethorpe County for a time. This can be verified through County Property records. He owned an Estate known as Beaverdam Farms there. The Estate contained a horse farm; with several barns, a private, indoor basketball court, an in home movie theater and lots of other things. The home was featured on Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous; The bathrooms had 24kt gold faucets and although I am not sure how much the selling price was, the original asking price on Beaverdam Farms when he sold it was $24 million dollars
