Palm Beach Shores is a town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,269 at the 2000 census. As of 2004, the population recorded by the U.S. Census Bureau was 1,511.[3]

Geography

The town occupies the southern tip of Singer Island. It borders the City of Riviera Beach, Florida on the north, the Atlantic Ocean on the east and Lake Worth Lagoon on the west. On the south, the Lake Worth Inlet separates it from Palm Beach. Within the town lies the state of Florida's most eastern point.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²). 0.6 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (34.21%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 1,269 people, 697 households, and 322 families residing in the town. The population density was 1,959.9/km² (5,010.5/mi²). There were 1,171 housing units at an average density of 1,808.5/km² (4,623.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 89.13% White (of which 88% were Non-Hispanic Whites,)[4] 9.06% African American, 0.08% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.39% from other races, and 0.79% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.13% of the population.

There were 697 households out of which 8.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.7% were married couples living together, 4.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 53.8% were non-families. 44.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.82 and the average family size was 2.52.

In the town the population was spread out with 11.3% under the age of 18, 3.3% from 18 to 24, 23.7% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 33.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 52 years. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males.
