Rivesville is a town in Marion County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 913 as of the 2000 census.

Geography

Rivesville is located at 39°31′49″N 80°7′9″W / 39.53028°N 80.11917°W / 39.53028; -80.11917 (39.530276, -80.119063)[3] in the heart of the Fairmont coal field[4] on the north-west bank of the Monongahela River around its confluence with Paw Paw Creek.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.6 km² (0.6 mi²). 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it (5.00%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 913 people, 400 households, and 268 families residing in the town. The population density was 618.4/km² (1,602.5/mi²). There were 450 housing units at an average density of 304.8/km² (789.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.80% White, 0.11% African American, 0.11% Native American, 0.33% Asian, and 0.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.55% of the population.

There were 400 households out of which 24.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.0% were married couples living together, 11.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.80.
