Sherman County is a county located in the U.S. state of Nebraska. As of 2000, the population was 3,318. Its county seat is Loup City[1]. It was named after American Civil War Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman.

In the Nebraska license plate system, Sherman County is represented by the prefix 56 (it had the fifty-sixth-largest number of vehicles registered in the county when the license plate system was established in 1922).

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 572 square miles (1,481 km²), of which, 566 square miles (1,466 km²) of it is land and 6 square miles (15 km²) of it (1.01%) is water.

Sherman County was formed in 1871. It was named after General William Tecumseh Sherman.[2]
