Snow Shoe is a borough in Centre County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of the State College, Pennsylvania Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 771 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Snow Shoe is located at 41°1′40″N 77°56′57″W / 41.02778°N 77.94917°W / 41.02778; -77.94917 (41.027821, -77.949099)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 771 people, 286 households, and 217 families residing in the borough. The population density was 1,297.0 people per square mile (504.6/km²). There were 305 housing units at an average density of 513.1/sq mi (199.6/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.74% White and 0.26% Asian. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.39% of the population.

There were 286 households out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 66.4% were married couples living together, 6.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.8% were non-families. 21.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.70 and the average family size was 3.13.

In the borough the population was spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 27.4% from 25 to 44, 27.6% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 107.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 100.3 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $40,398, and the median income for a family was $42,222. Males had a median income of $29,886 versus $21,979 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $16,497. About 3.5% of families and 4.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.4% of those under age 18 and 3.3% of those age 65 or over.
