The Proud Family is an American animated television series that aired on Disney Channel from September 15, 2001 to August 19, 2005.

The Proud Family was created by Bruce W. Smith and was produced by his studio, Jambalaya Studios.[1] Originally piloted for Nickelodeon, it was eventually picked up by the Disney Channel in September 2001. Many of the later episodes of The Proud Family were produced using Macromedia Flash. It was first broadcast in the United States on Disney Channel on September 15, 2001 (it still airs there early weekday mornings), and was later aired on Toon Disney until February 2009. It has also broadcast on The Family Channel in Canada. Disney Channel admits that it will not air the new seasons of The Proud Family. The show was the first Disney animated show which didn't premiere on network/over-the-air television, which had been done since 1985 when the Television Animation unit was started. It marked the first animated Disney Channel Original Series, and, incidentally, the only animated original series from the Disney Channel not associated with, and to be produced exclusively by, Disney's TV Animation arm.

The Proud Family

The Proud family consists of Oscar Proud, an African American man who works at a snack factory as the CEO, it is a running gag that the snacks are disliked by all who eat them. Oscar, although strict, is a typically fair and kind man. Trudy Proud is Oscar's wife, an attractive and sweet African American woman. Trudy is kind and hardworking, but also instills a sense of responsibility in her children. Penny Proud is the daughter of Trudy and Oscar, and the protagonist of the series. Although she has a good heart, Penny gets into trouble in nearly every episode. Bebe and Cece are the fraternal twin brother and sister of Penny. Although good children, they sometimes annoy Penny. Sugar Mama is the overbearing, crude, and witty mother of Oscar. Sugar Mama has a small dog that she treats as her baby, and although Sugar Mama will go to great lengths to help and protect both her grandchildren and sister-in-law, it is a known fact that Sugar Mama picks on her son, and favors her younger child, Oscar's brother, better.
