Traverse County is a county located in the U.S. state of Minnesota, founded in 1862[1] As of 2000, the population was 4,134. Its county seat is Wheaton[2]. It is Minnesota's smallest county by population.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 586 square miles (1,518 km²), of which 574 square miles (1,487 km²) is land and 12 square miles (31 km²) (2.03%) is water.
