Tuckahoe is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 1,741 at the 2000 census.

Tuckahoe is in the Town of Southampton.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.5 square miles (14.3 km2), of which, 5.1 square miles (13.1 km2) of it is land and 0.4 square miles (1.2 km2) of it (8.17%) is water.


As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,741 people, 687 households, and 456 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 343.9 per square mile (132.8/km2). There were 1,092 housing units at an average density of 215.7/sq mi (83.3/km2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 84.26% White, 7.29% African American, 0.69% Native American, 0.75% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 5.28% from other races, and 1.67% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 18.44% of the population.

There were 687 households out of which 29.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.1% were married couples living together, 9.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.6% were non-families. 27.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 2.95.
